Did you fall over and break your tooth ? Or have you bitten onto something really hard and got your tooth fractured ? Do you get conscious while smiling because of broken tooth ?
Here are 5 options to fix your broken tooth ?
- Dental bonding
If you have a cracked or a chipped tooth over the edge of tooth surface or discolouration then it can be restored using a resin bonding material known as composite. It is a tooth coloured material which can be moulded and shaped according to the natural tooth structure. It is hardened with light cure and then polished. It is less expensive and no anesthesia is required. It can be completed in a single visit. - Veneers
Veneers can be used to treat a number of different cosmetic concerns, including chipped, broken, discolored tooth. Sometimes veneers are placed on multiple teeth to attain a uniform smile where esthetics is of the highest concern. Veneers can be of two types – composite veneers or porcelain veneers. - Crowns
If your tooth is chipped badly and more tooth surface is compromised or if the tooth is sensitive due to the fracture involving dentin layer, then it cannot be fixed with dental bonding or a veneer, it has to be fixed by placing a full coverage crown. The tooth is built up with a material and trimmed or prepared to cover it with a fixed crown. - Root canal treatment and a crown
If your tooth is fractured at pulp level or is tender i.e if the fracture extends upto the tooth nerve then it has to be fixed with a root canal treatment followed by placing a crown over it. An extra support may or may not be required by placing a post in one or more treated root canals depending upon the loss of tooth structure. - Implants
If the tooth structure is severely compromised or is fractured at crown-root junction and cannot be replaced even by doing RCT , post and crown then your dentist might consider extracting your tooth and replace it with an implant which is later rehabilitated by placing a crown over it.
