What does pulpotomy mean?

How is pulpotomy done?
The infected part of the pulp tissue is removed using various devitalising techniques and the remaining uninfected part is preserved hence keeping the vitality of the tooth intact. The agent also calms down the remaining pulp tissue. The agent used to devitalise the infected pulp is Formocresol.
How long does it take?
It generally takes a single appointment for the procedure. its is followed by a filling or a crown which takes additional appointments.
When is this procedure required?
One needs this when the upper part of the pulp tissue of the milk teeth in kids is infected by a cavity or a trauma to the tooth. The remaining part of the pulp remains uninfected hence it is not touched. This is done only in the milk teeth which are soon to fall off.
